Tell us about yourself.

Lauren Tobler is a Nurse Practitioner and a Lead Clinical Provider at CareFirst Urgent Care.

“My name is Lauren Tobler, I am a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Provider Lead at CareFirst. My primary work location is Newport and I have been working at CareFirst since November 2020.”

Lauren graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a master's degree in Nursing (MSN, FNP) in May 2020. She’s a mom to a 9-year-old boy named Carson and married her husband in May 2021. Lauren and her husband, Alex, have been together for 6 years.

“We have 3 cats: Kitty, Stella Tuna, and Shadow. We also have a Black Labrador named Hank. If I wasn’t a Nurse Practitioner, I would probably be running a cat shelter!”

Lauren enjoys hiking and boating. She loves to spend time together with family and friends and enjoys traveling. Her bucket list includes going to Europe and visiting the Caribbean.

How did you learn about CareFirst?

Lauren started working in urgent care after her best friend, Jordyn Mandle, shared the positive experiences she’s had working at CareFirst as a Nurse Practitioner. Lauren says that because of her love for continuous learning, she fixed her gaze to becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

“I decided to become a Nurse Practitioner because I love learning, and I wanted to be independent. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. When I was still in school, I did some clinical hours in urgent care. I fell in love with it.”

What does a typical day look like for you?

When asked what a typical day at CareFirst Urgent Care is like, Lauren replied that she experiences a lot of COVID-19 visits at present. Generally working in urgent care provides a wide range of cases, and each day anything could come through the door from illness to injury. She may provide first aid treatment, such as sutures, or treatments to deal with infection. At other times Lauren helps with promoting wellness, such as preventative health screenings, vaccinations, and physical exams.

“You have to be creative, resourceful and independent to thrive in this environment. It can be really challenging some days, but it makes you into a better provider.”

A rewarding workplace.

Lauren’s experience with the CareFirst Urgent Care team has been really positive. She has had the chance to work with bright, intelligent, and talented staff at CareFirst. This has helped her in facing the most recent COVID-19 surge at work. Teamwork and good communication in the clinic is very important when managing the challenges that can arise. The CareFirst team has also paved the way for Lauren to connect and network with other providers.

“The most rewarding aspect of my job is being in a unique position to fill the gap between primary care and the emergency room. I love feeling like I have really made a difference in someone’s life.”
